PIANOMANIA

🙌PREMIERE🎻Classics

Pianomania A new programme by okoncert. A virtuoso evening of piano music. “Music is enough for a lifetime, but a lifetime is not enough for music.” — Sergei Rachmaninoff Pianomania is an evening in which all attention belongs to the grand piano: its voice, scale, beauty, and almost boundless ability to change character — from confessional stillness to virtuoso brilliance. It is a programme about that rare magnetic pull which turns a love of the piano into obsession and passion. The programme brings together composers from three national schools and three stylistic worlds: Romanticism, Impressionism, and Neoclassicism. Each reveals the piano in a different way, and each is represented by works in which this can be heard with particular clarity. Programme: Frédéric Chopin — Étude in A-flat major, Op. 25 No. 1 “Aeolian Harp” Frédéric Chopin — Étude in C minor, Op. 25 No. 12 “Ocean” Frédéric Chopin — Scherzo in C-sharp minor, Op. 39 No. 3 Sergei Rachmaninoff — Prelude in G minor, Op. 23 No. 5 Sergei Rachmaninoff — Prelude in G-flat major, Op. 23 No. 10 Sergei Rachmaninoff — Prelude in G-sharp minor, Op. 32 No. 12 Pyotr Tchaikovsky — “March” from The Seasons Pyotr Tchaikovsky — “April” from The Seasons Pyotr Tchaikovsky — “May” from The Seasons Maurice Ravel — Forlane from Le Tombeau de Couperin Maurice Ravel — Rigaudon from Le Tombeau de Couperin Maurice Ravel — Toccata from Le Tombeau de Couperin Claude Debussy — Arabesque No. 1 At the piano is Roksana Tarvide, a pianist with a vivid and emotionally charged performing style. She is a laureate of international competitions named after Johannes Brahms, Sergei Taneyev, and Ilmari Hannikainen, and has refined her artistry under Dmitri Bashkirov, Boris Berman, Dominique Merlet, and Lilya Zilberstein. She has toured in numerous European countries — from Estonia and Lithuania to Italy and France. And in the finale — four hands at one grand piano. Roksana Tarvide is joined by Kaspars Bumbishs, her regular partner in piano duet and part of one of Latvia’s most acclaimed chamber ensembles: winners of eight international competitions, with concert tours in Lithuania, Estonia, Finland, Italy, Poland, and Austria, and holders of the official title “Best YAMAHA Piano Duo.” Latvijas Radio Klasika describes them as: “Different in character, yet perfectly matched in music.” Pianomania unfolds within the architecture of St. Paul’s Church — with light and projections that work together with the music and enhance it. A classical programme takes shape in a space that responds to every work.
