AVE MARIA
Ave Maria — Christmas Organ and Vocal Music Concert by Candlelight On this winter evening, 22 December, beneath the neo-Gothic vaults of St. Paul’s Church, the most famous musical interpretations of the prayer “Ave Maria” will be performed — the angelic greeting to the Blessed Virgin Mary. The canonical text of this prayer has inspired many great composers to create masterpieces that have become symbols of spiritual beauty. The concert programme features works by Charles Gounod, Johann Sebastian Bach, Franz Schubert, and other composers whose melodies continue to touch the hearts of millions of listeners. The most celebrated vocal versions of “Ave Maria” will be performed by: Jūlija Vasiļjeva — soprano, one of the leading soloists of the Latvian National Opera, known for her musical sensitivity and purity of tone. Ilona Bagele — mezzo-soprano, soloist of the Latvian National Opera, whose emotional depth and rich vocal timbre captivate audiences. At the organ — Ilona Birģele, one of Latvia’s outstanding organists and the artistic director of the Historic Organ Festival “Latvia — Land of the Organ”. You will experience a unique atmosphere: hundreds of flickering candles, gentle lighting, the majestic sound of the organ and the pure, heartfelt voices of the singers will create a space for reflection, inspiration and inner peace. This evening will be a special Christmas event, touching the hearts of everyone who attends.
